The Washington State Department of Transportation is relaunching the WE-Bike e-bike rebate program beginning March 30, 2026, to make e-bikes more affordable for residents across Washington State.
Eligible applicants ages 16 and older can apply for rebates between March 30, 2026, and March 29, 2027, through a dedicated application portal. The program will conduct monthly random selections starting April 13, with rebates of $300 or $1,200 depending on income eligibility.
The 2025 pilot program demonstrated strong success, with feedback showing that "rebates motivated people to buy e-bikes they otherwise couldn't afford," particularly among lower-income households. Of 37,751 applicants across all 39 counties, 6,861 received rebates. Nearly half of recipients surveyed reported using e-bikes to reach new destinations.
The Washington State Legislature initially funded the WE-Bike program with $5 million during the 2023-2025 biennium. In the 2025-2026 session, lawmakers increased support to $7 million for the 2025-2027 biennium to expand the program's reach.
